Mabi Castro
Chief Impact Officer
Mabi is a passionate women’s rights advocate with experience in public policy and
healthcare advocacy. Before joining Lifeline Community Services as the Chief Impact
Officer, Mabi worked at the County of San Diego’s Office of Economic Development and
Government Affairs where she was the Interim Deputy Director, leading advocacy around
the County’s legislative and budgetary priorities at both the state and federal level.
Ms. Castro first joined the County as part of the Executive Team for the Chairwoman of the
Board of Supervisors. As Director of Policy, she led transformative policy changes around
the environment, public safety, immigration, behavioral health, childcare, and economic
prosperity. Mabi was later promoted to Senior Director of Economic Innovation and
Strategy where she directed initiatives to empower small business owners, promote
community development, streamline opportunities for new partnerships and investments
in the region, and develop strategies for job creation.
Mabi joined the County after working as the Community and Government Relations
Manager for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. Her commitment to social
justice also led her to work for the California State Senate and Assembly as a Legislative
Analyst and Community Representative respectively.
Ms. Castro obtained an M.A. in International Politics from Universidad Complutense de
Madrid. She obtained a B.A. in International Development from UCLA.
She gives back to the community as a Board Member of Run Women Run, Board Secretary
for the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and advisor on the MANA de San
Diego Board Development Committee.
Mabi is proud of her bicultural upbringing between Mexico and the United States. Her
involvement in community organizations from a young age is what drive her to continue to
build on the work she’s devoted herself to – In the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors
– for future generations. In her free time, you can find Mabi playing tennis or running with
her Old English Sheepdog, Max.
