THE NEED: 

According to National Children’s Alliance, Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S annually.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Lifeline’s Parent Education program is a free eight-week court approved class for parents who are working with Child Welfare Services, are single parents, feel overwhelmed, discouraged or alone, or just want to improve their parenting skills.

PROGRAM SERVICES: 

Parent Education classes utilize the intensive, evidence-based parenting education curriculum, Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP), which focuses on health, home safety, and parent-child interaction. Topics include:

  • Parenting Styles
  • Listening and talking to your child
  • Encouragement
  • Self-Esteem
  • Setting rules, limits and boundaries
  • Discipline that makes sense
  • Cooperation within your family
  • Understanding Child Traumatic Stress
Lifeline also offers free child care to parents while they participate in classes.

WHO WE HELP:

The Parent Education program serves court-ordered clients, Children’s Welfare Services referrals, and families who would like to improve their parenting skills. Classes are conducted in Vista and Escondido.

Last year Lifeline’s Parent Education program served 107 families.
